Presenting the work of Mark Viney Military Artist
 The Drummer Boy of Shiloh
About the Artist
Mark Viney has been an illustrator and artist for over 20 years,
producing mainly figurative artwork for book covers and magazines.
He has illustrated for such renowned authors as Christopher Nicole,
Catherine Cookson, and Josephine Cox. Mark has also produced a number of
extremely popular British Wildlife paintings. However, Mark has always
wanted to paint military art.
"I've always been fascinated by war. As a child, I would create large
battle scenes, spending hours arranging soldiers. I also loved to paint
soldiers, especially from the Napoleonic era, and I must have seen the
films Zulu and The Alamo dozens of times.
"Of course, now I have a different outlook on war. So when I paint I
like to feel that I am more of a witness to the event; I don't want to
glamorize or romanticize war, but to create a sense of drama and
realism, and give the viewer a sense of what it must have been like to
have been there.
